Update from Traci Sooter

Update from Traci Sooter

The ground has been broken!  Chris and his get-to-getting’ (an Oklahoma term per Chris) team are moving along very quickly and will be ready to pour the retaining wall and side walk very soon!

Our students have been brought up to speed on the project and watched a really good documentary by the Joplin globe about what happen to them.  They have now visited the site and are working on their first assignment, precedent research.

While Chris’ team is doing most of the heavy listing for the project, students are designing and building 5 elements in the garden.  The water wall, smaller water features, sun shading device, story boards and benches.

Professor Peter Meidlinger’ s engaged learning course, “The healing of Joplin”, is gathering and processing stories from survivors for our class to use on the story boards.  They started this process on the 2nd anniversary and will return to Joplin on September 7th.   The two classes will meet each other today at 4:00 during our architecture studio.
